- SDG 1: No Poverty – Supporting vulnerable children with health and nutrition needs.
- SDG 2: Zero Hunger – Addressing malnutrition through targeted dietary support.
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being – Enhancing children’s health and nutrition status.
The Department of Diet & Nutritional Sciences organized a comprehensive medical nutritional camp at a local orphanage, aiming to improve the health and nutritional status of sthe children residing there. This initiative provided an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning for the nutrition students, who played a pivotal role in conducting various activities throughout the camp.
The camp commenced with thorough assessments of the children’s nutritional status. Under the supervision of faculty member, Dr. Fatima Amjad, the students performed anthropometric measurements, including height, weight, and body mass index (BMI), to identify growth patterns and potential nutritional deficiencies. These measurements were essential in creating a baseline for the children’s health profiles.
One of the significant aspects of the camp was the provision of free dietary supplements to children who needed them. Based on the assessments, children identified with nutritional deficiencies were given appropriate supplements, such as iron, multivitamins, and vitamin D, to address and manage their specific health needs.
